I work a swing shift and I have been having problems getting to sleep at night when I am working regular 8 am to 5 pm shift. What can I do?

This is a common problem in people who work the night shift and with people who regularly travel across time zones in the course of their work. During the time when you are working the night shift, try to avoid eating large meals when you come home in the morning. Use some dark curtains in your bedroom to block out all of the daylight, turn off your cell phone and go straight to bed. If the insomnia persist, discuss the problem with your doctor and ask whether you should try a supplement called melatonin.
